It is a massive jubilation in Kwara as residents look forward to celebrating the Hijrah year. To ensure proper celebrations, the governor of the state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved Monday as a public holiday. As the people commemorate the new Hijrah year, there will not be work on Monday the 8th of July, 2024. The commemoration of this new year is held according to the Islamic calendar of 1446. To celebrate the Monday blessings, the state will be hosting a special event on that day.
The reason for the holiday
Marking a special day in the Islamic world, the first day in the year 1446 happens to fall on the Sunday preceding the Monday. To ensure that they celebrate the new year properly, the governor has declared the following Monday as a work-free day. According to the Muslim calendar, the first moon (lunar) month is Muharram. In the year 1446, the first day of Muharram falls on the Sunday of July (7th of July, 2024).
The Kwara state government joins the people in celebrating the new year
The government of the state has joined the people of Kwara in celebrating this new year. According to an address released by the governor through its Chief Press Secretary, he shares in the celebration as the Muslim world steps into the new year. He then reminded the people about the need for there to be a more deeper introspection as they make their journey towards a more united community. The governor also commended the people for having more tolerance and mutual respect while also ensuring justice and fairness in their daily activities. To conclude his report, the governor of the state wished the community the blessings of the new year of the Hijrah. He also went on to pray to Allah to grant everyone the blessings of the new season.
The state capital makes big preparations ahead of the celebration
