AI chatbot service ChatGPT, which has been making headlines all over the world since its launch, has leaked the data of its users. ChatGPT has made the credit card information of users public. The company itself has given this information in a blog post. Tech startup OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, said that this happened due to a bug. Although the company says that that bug has been fixed. ChatGPT has created a stir all over the world as soon as it came into existence. While AI chatbot has made the work of many people easier, many people have also found a way to misuse it. A report by Group-IB has revealed that the data of around 1,00,000 people was compromised after ChatGPT accounts were hacked. It has been said in the report that especially the maximum number of users in India have been affected by this.
What is ChatGPT?
People are very curious to know about Chat GPT, so let us know what is Chat GPT. This is a generative pre-trained transformer language model. Which has been developed by Open AI. Which can understand the words written in the search box and give answers in formats like article, table, news article, poem. However, when you use it, please correct the grammar. The information given by it is completely correct, it also needs to be rechecked.
How did Chat GPT develop?
Chat GPT is a natural language processing model developed by Open AI. It was first published in a research in 2018. It was created for question answering, language translation and paragraph creation etc. Talking about the founders of Chat GPT, Sam Altman and Elon Musk started it in 2015. Elon Musk had left this project in the initial years itself. After which Microsoft has invested in it and launched it as a prototype on 30 November 2022.
Data of many people leaked
Let us tell you that for the first time, users’ data has been leaked from ChatGPT. According to the company, due to a bug, credit card details of users have been leaked. The company also said that the number of users whose details have been leaked is very less and all these users have been informed about the data leak. Let us tell you that due to this bug, information about users’ credit card details like first name and last name, email address, payment address and card expiry date was leaked.
The company apologized
Apologizing to ChatGPT users for the breach, the company said that full credit card number information was not exposed at any time. The company claimed that the bug has now been fixed. “We took ChatGPT offline earlier this week due to a bug in an open-source library that allowed some users to see titles from other active users’ chat histories,” the company said in a recent statement.
ChatGPT recently got plug-in support
OpenAI recently released plug-in support for its AI chatbot ChatGPT. Previously ChatGPT only had access to the training model it was taught and this information was limited to 2021. After plug-in support, the chatbot will also be able to take help from other websites on the internet to answer questions.
India tops the list
Group-IB, a Singapore-based cyber technology company, claims to have identified more than 1,00,000 theft-infected devices in which ChatGPT credentials were saved. Group-IB’s Threat Intelligence Unit has revealed that countries like India (12,632), Pakistan (9,217), and Brazil (6,531) topped the list where users were affected by cyber-attacks.
Data sold on the dark web
The report states that these stolen credentials were sold on marketplaces, including those in the Asia-Pacific region. Most of the accounts were sold. This revelation has confirmed the scepticism of many tech experts, including Elon Musk, who had demanded regulation of AI platforms like ChatGPT. Recently, the European Union has also introduced an AI Act that seeks regulation of artificial intelligence platforms.
Time magazine said on the AI Act that companies such as ChatGate maker OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google had “lobbied” with EU officials to impose a less stringent AI regulation regime in the AI Act. Globally, companies and individuals are using generative AI platforms like ChatGPT to make themselves more productive. When using an AI platform, people can share some sensitive data with ChatGPT writer and this makes it valuable. Many companies have banned their employees from using ChatGPT, citing similar reasons.
Disadvantages of Chat GPT
It is like a learning model, it can answer only as much as the data fed inside it. Or the data it has been trained on. If there are biases in the trained data, they can also be reflected in the answers to the corresponding questions. That is why it does not have as much understanding as the human brain. If you are using it, then use it only after checking the related content.
