How to Celebrate Gay Pride in Tokyo

The objective of Tokyo Rainbow gay Pride 2024 is to spread awareness about culture and celebrate the diversity of life and humanity. This year’s theme is “Change the Future Together”. Yoyogi Event Plaza will host a variety of performances and, other than the Tokyo Rainbow Pride festival and the Pride Parade, there will be many other events throughout Pride week. To help celebrate Pride Week, people created a list of ten of our favorite Japanese LGBTQ-themed films that have garnered attention both in Japan and abroad for their nuanced and honest representations of Japan’s LGBTQ community. 

When was the first pride fight?

An annual festival, celebrating the celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in any country. The pride commemorates the Stonewall riots, which began in the early hours of June 28, 1969, when police stormed a bar in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. Gay Pride includes a series of actions on the day and often includes marches and marches of the gay community and its supporters at the Wall.

Where does pride come from?

On June 28, 1970, the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Thousands of LGBT+ people gathered to celebrate the stonewall and hold demonstrations for the day. After the stonewall massacre, the liberation movement marked the beginning of the last decade of LGBT+ activism and organizing. Specifically, the Bare tradition was adapted from the “Reminder of the Pickets’ ‘ held on July 4 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1965–1969). After the Stonewall rebellion (June 1969), the organizers of the annual memorial picket (the first regional gathering of homophile organizations) suggested that they focus their attention on holding an annual demonstration in memory of Stonewall instead of planning a memorial picket. 

Is pride good or not?

Pride is such a feeling that it hurts both the one who nurtures it and the one who destroys it. When you have achieved something big, it is better to feel proud. It tastes delicious to feel proud — it makes one feel proud. Being arrogant is a different thing — it can make you arrogant and self-centred. To make one proud means to make one’s soul proud. It makes life sweet, especially for the people around you. For the Greek philosopher, pride meant greatness. A proud person means that person who is capable of doing great things and thinks. Beware of evil. This thinking that we are worthy of great things, whereas we are not, we are worthless. Whereas we have been treating ourselves as less worthy than those for whom we are worthy.

What is the meaning of pride?

This is what happens when we compare ourselves to others   who is better than us   and in reality, we are living. In order to acknowledge this fact, we have to look for something that we can be proud of. For example, you can say, “You can say that I can draw a really nice picture, but I am a very honest person.”
