Review: Japantown obento

I ate a bento from Japantown the other day. Not bad. Presentation is pretty. The hamburger and egg were really good. The veggies, not so much.

  1. That doesn’t look appetizing to me, but I am white devil that doesn’t live in Japan all year long, so take it for what it’s worth.
I can’t really read Japanese and after a couple of “hope for the best” bento, where I couldn’t see what was inside, I became dedicated to egg sandwiches from the konbini, or tuna onigiri from 7-11 when I had to eat on the go. Bottle of delicious oolong to wash it all down.
I really miss that tuna onigiri from 7-11. It was good.

  2. I may be wrong, but it seems weird to me that the meat is sitting on top of the raw vegetables, rather than on top of the rice. In the bento I have seen/eaten, the meat would be sitting on top of the rice. Doesn’t it make more sense that way? The cooked stuff stays with cooked stuff, raw with raw? Ah well.

  3. Next time, hop Caltrain down to San Jose and go to the SJ Japantown for a real bento. That thing really looks horrible.
That’s one of the things I always miss after coming home from Tokyo. You can get good food (bento, curry, even musibi) just about everywhere there!
