Platinum Gundam

Holy crap! Someone finally did it. Takara Tomy revealed its Gundam-gone-platinum toy yesterday. Made of pure pt1000, this robot replica stands 5 inches tall and took 2 years to design and make.  Blinged out Gundam will be settling in its home in a jewelry shop in Ginza soon, but has a world tour to go on beforehand–starting with Basel, Switzerland. Of course, what I really want to know is how much this bad boy costs. Will geeks start presenting their lovers with this instead of a diamond engagement ring? Perhaps. Its creators estimate its value at about $250,000, but if you think about how rare and gorgeous this thing is, I’d say its priceless like a Mastercard commercial.

  1. I can’t even begin to think of how utterly pointless such a thing would be. You can’t really play with it…or customize it…and it doesn’t really do anything except sit there and look shiny… Actually, now that I think about it, why it would have to do anything else?

  2. Platinum Gundam Protects Very Small Countries

Mounting cardboard boxes on our arms, legs, and head and running pretending we were Gundam is much easier these days since we get so many packages in the mail (FedEx/UPS Gundam ftw). But a Gundam made of platinum is pretty…
